バッカーノ!The Rolling Bootlegs (Baccano! The Rolling Bootlegs)
Author: 成田良悟 (Ryohgo Narita) (2003)
jusco’s Rating: ★★★1/2

Another light novel by the same author as デュラララ!!(Durarara!!read my review here), but this time much more entertaining. The story once again revolves around a plethora of characters – a thieving and eccentric couple, multiple mafia groups, an old man several centuries old, a homunculus, a wine that is actually an immortality elixir – all set upon the backdrop of 1930 Manhattan, NY during the Prohibition-era. Unlike デュラララ!!(Durarara!!), the pace is much faster and consistent with plenty of action and plot twists. Despite so many characters, the author does well to handle each sub-story and eventually link them with each other with little confusion. All in all, a highly entertaining and fun ride. Action, humour, romance – it’s all there, nicely compacted in a small book.
