My first light novel was quite entertaining. Light novels are written to entertain and that was exactly what it was, a light and fun read. The story revolves around multiple characters in the streets of Ikebukuro, Japan (a place I’m more than familiar with). These include gang members, a timid boy from the countryside and the headless “Black Rider” who rides a motorcycle in the night. If this sounds like a show to you, you’re right. It reads like one and probably works much better with anime than the books (the whole franchise includes an anime series as well as several sequels). Despite a few slow moving parts and relatively few action scenes, the twists and turns of the plot make it interesting enough to hold your attention.
